Shelby grew up in a small part of Paris, Texas, with her mom and her step mother. She doesn't know much about her father, since he died when she was very young, so she looks up to her step-mother as more of a paternal figure to some degree. Her parents constantly worry about her, and call her everyday she goes to Pennbrooke (much to her dismay). She's confused over her sexuality, and prefers to keep this part of her life a secret. She was sent to Pennbrooke in order to bring up her grades, since finding out these teachers were some of the best in the state.
